Ouazzane (also spelled Ouazzane or Wazzan) is a city in northern Morocco with profound spiritual significance. Known as the 'City of the Saints', it was a major center of Islamic mysticism under the leadership of the Sharifian dynasty of the Wazzani family. Ouazzane sits in a fertile region surrounded by olive groves, with ancient white and blue buildings climbing the hillsides. Its weekly souk draws traders from across the region.
Ouazzane was founded in the 17th century by Moulay Abdullah, a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad, who established a spiritual dynasty that attracted students and pilgrims. The city became known for religious tolerance, with Muslims and Jews living side by side. The city's spiritual importance declined in the 20th century, but its character as a holy city remains.

The best time to visit is spring or fall. Ouazzane is off the main tourist trail, so accommodation options are limited — consider visiting as a day trip from Chefchaouen or Tangier. Dress modestly and respectfully, especially at religious sites.
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the most pleasant temperatures. Summers are ideal for coastal areas, while winter is perfect for city tours.
