Ouarzazate is a desert city in southern Morocco that serves as the gateway to the Sahara. Known as the 'Hollywood of Africa', it is home to Atlas Studios and CLA Studios, where legendary films including Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and The Mummy were shot. The nearby UNESCO World Heritage site of Aït Benhaddou is the most stunning example of Moroccan earthen clay architecture — a perfectly preserved ksar (fortified village) that has appeared in countless films. The city itself is a modern creation, built at the confluence of the Draa and Dadès valleys.

Ouarzazate is the gateway to the Sahara — combine heritage exploration with a desert trip. Aït Benhaddou is best visited in the early morning or late afternoon for the best light. The region is hot in summer — visit in spring or autumn. Allow 2-3 days to fully explore the area.
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the most pleasant temperatures. Summers are ideal for coastal areas, while winter is perfect for city tours.
