Ifrane is a unique Moroccan town that resembles an Alpine village, earning it the nickname 'Switzerland of Morocco'. Located at 1,650 meters altitude in the Middle Atlas mountains, the town features red-roofed chalets, pine forests, and well-maintained parks. The climate is distinctly alpine, with snow in winter, making it a popular destination for skiing at the nearby Michlifen resort. The surrounding forests are home to the Barbary macaque, and the famous Cèdre Gouraud cedar forest, where the ancient Gouraud Cedar stands as one of Morocco's largest trees, is a short drive away.

Ifrane is best visited in spring (April-May) when wildflowers bloom or winter (December-February) for skiing. The town is 60 km from Fes and makes an excellent day trip or overnight stay. Combine with a visit to the cedar forests to see Barbary macaques. The town is significantly cooler than the imperial cities — bring layers even in summer.
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the most pleasant temperatures. Summers are ideal for coastal areas, while winter is perfect for city tours.
