A stunning natural paradise in the Rif Mountains with waterfalls, rock bridges, and hiking trails.
A stunning natural area in the Rif Mountains near Chefchaouen, known for its waterfalls, natural rock bridges, and hiking trails through lush valleys.
Akchour is a breathtaking natural area nestled in the Rif Mountains near Chefchaouen. Known for its crystal-clear rivers, dramatic waterfalls, and the famous natural rock bridge known as Pont de Dieu (God's Bridge), it is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers. The area features lush Mediterranean forests of oak, pine, and cedar, with wildflowers blooming in spring. The main trail follows the Oued Farda river through a series of pools and cascades, culminating in the magnificent Cascades d'Akchour. The taller waterfall, known as the Grand Cascade, plunges over 100 meters into a turquoise pool below.
Akchour has long been a summer retreat for residents of Chefchaouen and the surrounding region. Its name comes from the Berber word for 'waterfall'. The area was traditionally used by local shepherds and farmers from nearby Jbala tribes. In recent years, it has gained recognition among international hikers as one of Morocco's most beautiful natural destinations, while still maintaining its peaceful, unspoiled character.

Wear sturdy hiking shoes — the trails can be rocky and slippery near the waterfalls. Bring swimwear for the natural pools. Start early to avoid crowds, especially in summer. Pack a picnic as facilities are limited. The hike to Pont de Dieu takes about 45 minutes each way; the Grand Cascade is a longer 2-hour hike. Visit in spring for the most impressive waterfalls after rains.
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the most pleasant temperatures. Summers are ideal for coastal areas, while winter is perfect for city tours.
