Agdz is a peaceful town on the banks of the Draa River, surrounded by vast palm groves and dramatic desert landscapes. It sits at the edge of the Draa Valley, one of Morocco's longest river valleys, where ancient kasbahs rise from the sands and Berber villages dot the hillsides. The town was once an important stop for caravans carrying gold, salt, and slaves across the Sahara to Timbuktu. Today, it offers a tranquil base for exploring the Draa Valley's lush palm oasis, visiting nearby kasbahs like Kasbah Tammougalt and Kasbah El Khorbat, and experiencing authentic Berber hospitality.
Agdz has been inhabited for centuries as a vital stop along the trans-Saharan caravan route. The decline of the caravan routes in the 20th century transformed Agdz into a quiet agricultural town, but its kasbahs and traditional way of life remain remarkably well-preserved.

The best time to visit is spring (March-May) or autumn (September-November). The Draa Valley can be extremely hot in summer. Hire a local guide to explore the kasbahs and palm groves. Try traditional Berber dishes like tagine and couscous. Dress modestly, especially when visiting villages. Carry plenty of water.
